Excessive sweating, medically known as hyperhidrosis, often starts at puberty and is much more common than people think. Whether it’s the underarms, palms, face, scalp, or feet, this condition can be debilitating, resulting in social anxiety and embarrassment. It can make one tentative about shaking hands and speaking in public; it can also ruin clothes, keep one from wearing certain colors, and increase body odor. We treat excessive sweating safely with Botox® and Jeuveau®, which are a godsend for our patients who suffer from hyperhidrosis.
What Are Botox and Jeuveau for Excessive Sweating?
In addition to the topical antiperspirants (e.g., Drysol, Certain Dri) that Dr. Wechsler prescribes for excessive sweating, she also treats the condition with Botox and Jeuveau. You’re probably familiar with Botox and Jeuveau as products that reduce the lines and wrinkles on your forehead by relaxing the muscles in your face. But many people do not realize that these treatments can work for sweating as well. In this treatment, we inject Botox or Jeuveau into the area where excess sweating occurs (e.g., the underarms, palms, face, scalp and/or feet). This helps control the sweat glands, reducing their ability to produce sweat.
What Can I Expect from Treatment?
A topical anesthetic cream may be applied to manage discomfort, but the procedure itself is quick. During the treatment, Dr. Wechsler will inject the Botox/Jeuveau into the area where the excessive sweating occurs. These injections require zero downtime and you are free to return to your normal activities immediately.
What Results Can I Expect?
Real results may be noticeable within 24-48 hours, but peak results will become apparent after two weeks. Typically results will last for 3-6 months after your injections.*
